How Ralph Gonsalves Damaged Economy

There are several ways in which you bring an economy down on its knees

. The Prime Minister of St. Vincent and Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, left no stone unturned to ensure that there was little or no economic prosperity for the Vincentians. To avoid responsibility, Comrade Ralph often tells the media that the economy was in bad shape before he took the reins. He blamed the September 11 event in USA, the global economic meltdown and also the previous governments. What he did not admit was that he got nine years to mend broken things and all he did was plan political murders and different ways in which to silence his critics. He was never a man of action, someone who would walk on the path of progress and let people talk about his work rather than about his personal misdeeds.

The economy at St. Vincent and Grenadines has a fiscal deficit that is too high for the current trade and commerce to bridge down. Vincentians are not doing well in their strong points. Agriculture was their source of revenue once. But Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves didnt build any roads for the farmers to transport their produce without suffering a loss or paying a ransom. Banana plantations became crippled because the lack of metallic roads damaged their produce during transport. Infrastructure is lacking in almost every side you see. Repeated pleas for better conditions for business have fallen upon deaf years. Because the national earning is not up to the required mark, the country has a ballooning national debt. It borrows freely from world banks and other countries like USA. During the hurricane, Ralph wasted no time in asking for money!

Tourism was another department where St. Vincent and Grenadines scored heavily. It was a favorite holiday destination for tourists across the world. Honeymoon couples often made it a point to check out the exquisite beaches of SVG. But during the rule of Ralph Gonsalves, things changed. There was hardly any law and order system functional. The Prime Minister himself is known to assault women sexually, be it a foreign human rights lawyer or a policewoman posted to guard his house. The personal digressions of the Prime Minister emboldened his cronies and minions. They were sure of getting away with murder because the biggest and the most dangerous criminal in SVG happened to be the Prime Minister, Ralph Gonsalves!

The state owned efforts to bring about economic prosperity have always fallen flat. Ralph Gonsalves was always half-hearted about planning for the countrys economic progress. He was more interested in making sure that critics and free thinkers in the country are not getting much of political mileage. His ways of ruling the country are anything but transparent or democratic. In fact, the primary reason why the Vincentians are going to oust him from office this December is that he destroyed the democratic framework and that in turn, hindered the economic progress. With the elections coming up, every Vincentian would like to redress the mistake that they had committed years ago by choosing Ralph Gonsalves.
