Antibiotics As A Uti Treatment

A UTI is commonly caused by a bacterial infection targeting the kidneys

, urethra, ureter, or bladder, and the most common bacteria causing a UTI is E Coli. Most doctors will opt to use any number of antibiotics as a UTI treatment because they are known to be effective in eliminating bacterial infections in your body in a fast and safe manner. The type of antibiotics your doctor chooses to prescribe to you will depend on your age, your history with antibiotics, and any other health issues that need to be considered.

Many people complain that using an antibiotic as a UTI treatment was ineffective, and after spending a full week or longer with the excruciating symptoms of a UTI, they were forced to look at other alternatives. The most common cause of antibiotics proving to be ineffective in treating a UTI is the increase in antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. For this reason, a doctor may need to prescribe a different round of antibiotics if the first round did not work. Unfortunately, doctors do not know which bacteria is infecting you without considerable testing, or if that bacteria has developed resistance to certain drugs.

Some people will choose to skip antibiotics as a UTI treatment and turn to natural or herbal remedies. Some of these natural remedies are more effective than others, and as with antibiotics, some may work better for you than others. During your treatment with antibiotics or another type of remedy, you may choose to alleviate symptoms while you are waiting for the infection to be killed by using anti-inflammatory and pain reliever medications available over the counter. These over the counter medications are not designed to be a cure and will only mask symptoms, so it is important to work with your doctor to rid yourself of the infection.
