Another concern related to both proxy IP addresses and MMO gaming is the notion of ghosting. In many games, it is possible to go into a spectators mode, which allows people not participating in the game to view it from various perspectives. Most games dont allow accounts with the same IP to engage in this because of the possibility that all of them are within close proximity of one another and can, therefore, give the active player information he otherwise would not have. It might be possible to get around this using software to mask IP information, but how effective this is might depend on the security features of the game being played.
Finally, there is also the issue of account security. Blizzard has continually added security features to help prevent this, including making devices called authenticators available for players. On the players end, a properly configured proxy IP system can help reduce the risk of having an account hacked.
Both the developers of MMO games and the players are concerned with their security. Since proxy IP protocols are not yet as commonplace as firewalls or anti-virus software, the developers have only started to adapt their security features to accommodate these developments. Still, for many of the games, it is still possible to have the anonymous surfing software running and connect to the game with no trouble after a few tweaks to the basic configuration.
