Zucchero had intended Luciano Pavarotti to be the performer but the audition tape sent in by Bocelli caught Pavarottis attention and he insisted that Bocelli should sing the song Miserere with Zucchero saying that nobody else could sing it better. Later, Zucchero toured through Europe and Bocelli performed instead of Pavarotti. Andrea Bocelli tickets were quickly sold off even for this very first concert. It was during this time that his talent had been noted all across Europe and he earned a lot of fame.

Bocelli earned various critical claims when he performed at the high profile annual charity concert of Pavarotti. During the year 1993, he signed with Sugar/Inseieme and began his career. II Mare Calmo Della Sera had been his first album which debuted in the Italian Top Ten. His first album went platinum. His second album had been released in the year 1995, Bocelli and went double platinum. Since he started his career, Bocelli has released 22 albums. In the year 1993, Bocelli had entered the Sanremo Music Festival which is quite prestigious and popular in Italy and had performed Miserere. He won the preliminary competition and received the highest ever recorded marks in the category of New Entrants. He again won the main competition the following year with his II mare calmo della sera with record scores.
He had again been invited to return to the festival the next year for the Sanremo Festival, as is the tradition. Andrea Bocella performed Con Te Partiro from Bocelli, his second album. The album had been produced by Mauro Malavasi, a leading Italian producer and the album went on to double platinum in only a few weeks in Italy. His worldwide success is phenomenal. Bocelli has scored several number one albums and singles over the years. Time to say Goodbye and Con Te Partiro had smashed the record sales in many countries. His albums have received several awards all over Europe and have been massive hits. In France, his single had topped the chart for six weeks straight and had earned the triple Gold award. In Belgium his single was the biggest ever hit of all times and had been on the number 1 spot for 12 weeks. Bocelli, is second album had earned sextuple platinum when it was released in Belgium and quadruple platinum when it had been released in Germany.
