An Orthodontist Is The Secret To Straight Teeth

Seeing an orthodontist is becoming a very standard event for young people and for adults

. Years ago many people did not have the privilege of getting this type of work done. Today, many parents make it a necessity for their child to have straight teeth. Straight teeth lead to more confidence in a person, and this is the primary reason why many adults are going to doctors like this to have braces placed on their teeth. There is no certain age that is ideal for everyone to go for help, but most orthodontists recommend that kids come after they have lost all of their baby teeth. This is normally between the ages of 11 to 13, but it varies. Anyone can have braces placed on their teeth though; it doesn't matter what the age of the person is.

The most standard type of braces is the metal ones; however, even these have come a long way. Today you will see kids walking around with many different colors of braces in their mouths. Kids can choose from a variety of colors and this makes wearing them a little more fun, and a little less embarrassing. In fact, most kids want to wear these. They feel kind of cool when they get these, and they get to display a portion of their personalities. Standard ones are made of metal brackets and wires. A metal bracket is placed on each tooth and a wire is strung through all of the brackets. Slowly, the wire is tightened and this is what will cause the teeth to straighten out. It takes time for this to happen, but this is a very effective method that is still the most popular today.

Another option you can choose from is Invisalign. This is something that more and more orthodontists are now beginning to offer. These are made with clear trays that are worn inside the mouth. These are nice because they are removable. The downside to these is that they usually require a person to come for visits every two weeks. At each visit, the patient will receive a new set of clear trays to wear. Each set is slightly tight and causes the teeth to shift to a straightened position. These are more expensive than the standard metal type, but they are nice because they are hard to see. This is the number one type that adults choose to have. Most adults do not want to be walking around with metal brackets and wires in their mouths because this can be embarrassing. Instead, they choose this type. It offers the same results, but it uses different materials to do it.

A much less common option is called lingual braces. These are placed on the backsides of a person's teeth, but they use the same material as standard braces. They are hidden on the backs of the teeth, and this is another type that is common for adults. These are not widely offered by all orthodontist offices, but if you are interested in them, you might be able to find an office that offers them.
