An Instant Tenerife Destination Guide

An Instant Tenerife Destination Guide

The south of the Island used to play home to a whole army of reps

, rounding up drunken tourists in kiss me quick hats. Thankfully they seem to have been widely evicted and the hats binned in favour of a more refined get up and clientele. The north also seems to have reformed in character too, catering to less boisterous holidaymakers. Thankfully the cobbled streets have been reclaimed by street traders and home grown businesses offering local product s and cuisine.

Now with its new auditorium and palm tree lined streets the islands capital, Santa Cruz, is becoming a very trendy destination for couples and families, whilst the rest of the island continues to prosper. Apartments in Tenerife, have become popular spots with tourists from all over the world.

Here is a guide for all those attracted to this newly revamped Tenerife.

In Santa Cruz there is a whole host of museums to get lost in, they range from historical, chronicling in some way Tenerifes long and fought after history, or alternatively there are more family oriented museums that should help keep the children occupied and interested for at least a few minutes. Then you can take a stroll through the towns Franco-era architecture, a great hark back to harsher times, though punctuated with some impressive monuments. Whilst in town be sure to take a look at the citys new auditorium, the Sydney Opera House look-alike, Tenerife auditorium.

While there are still some resort sites around, if you should wish to consume some of the wealthier sights then there is still an abundance of yachts and other such toys for Billionaire playboys.

The new Magma centre built in Las Americas is also a wonderful tribute to monolithic architecture.

Shopping

The classiest part of the Island for shopping seems to be in Las Americas, here you can find the Parque Santiago III, if you are in the market for fashions, then you will find your tastes well catered to, yet dont expect souvenirs and such. There are many lovely boutiques here and plenty of great little cafes in which you can take a quick break from shopping and catch a bite to eat and a coffee. For more souvenir type items head to Los Cristianos market which has a wide range of tourist based items.

Santa Cruz is a town perfectly suited to shopaholics with a great number of covered malls perfectly suited to anyone with the hope to shop 'til they drop.

Eating and Drinking

Many establishments here still hold the remnants of the islands British holiday resort days during the eighties, and true enough you can find many places serving up old fashioned British food. Among that though there is a whole world of cuisines, there is the local speciality of seafood, and many other international styles, Lebanese, Japanese, Argentinean, they all make an appearance.
