Advancements In Dentistry

Dental technology has witnessed incredible advancements over the last few decades

. According to dental researchers, innovative research and cutting-edge equipments have drastically transformed the field of Dental technology.

Listed below are some of the most recent and significant advances in dentistry.

Digital x-rays: This method has greatly reduced the exposure of patients to the hazardous effects of radiation. Besides, it has also made production, storage, and transfer of dental x-rays quicker, healthier and better for the environment.

Lasers: In addition to being used for certain soft tissue applications such as removing lesions, and for tooth whitening purposes, lasers are also being used to remove tooth decay.

Digital radiography: In this technology, a minute intra-oral sensor sends images by wireless methods directly to a computer screen. These images could be viewed either immediately or stored on a hard drive. Digital radiography helps in greatly minimizing patient exposure to radiation.

Kinetic cavity preparation: Kinetic cavity preparation or air-abrasive technology involves a procedure in which small aluminum particles are carried by a stream of air, thus removing decayed teeth without the use of drills, vibrations or local anesthetic.

Electronic dental anesthesia: In this process, electrodes are attached inside the mouth of the patient. The dentist uses electric pulses to eliminate nerve sensation while performing common restorative procedures.

Bonding and adhesives: These materials enable tooth and veneers to fit properly, thus resulting in enhanced strength, tighter seals, and natural color blending with the tooth. Adhesive dentistry refers to dental restorations that involve "bonding" of composite resin or porcelain fillings to natural teeth.

Dental implants: Today, there are better ways to fasten dentures or a single tooth that might have been broken due to an accident. There are certain dental implants that stimulate bone to attach to the implant post, which results in a greater hold.

Computer charting: Manual charting has given way to computerization or Computer charting. Owing to the use of dental software packages, microphone headsets, electronic probes and light pens, the process of dental examination has become easier to an extent. Dentists and hygienists no longer have to use paper or pencils during dental examination.
