Acupuncture - The First Treatment

Acupuncture - The First Treatment

Traditional Chinese Medicine has over 8000 years of history needle marks at least that old

, have been found on bones in china. Having such a long story, there must be some truth to it. We cannot disregard a kind of healing that has been practised and proven to work for thousands of years. Althogh many medical doctors refer to it as an alternative treatment, it could bepostulated that the actual alternative treatment is todays allopathy having only a few centuries of practise.

But in fact it is not easy to compare the TCM with Modern medicine, because the 2 are representing their very own way of outlook on the world.

Acupuncture sees the body as part of the wheel of life including the whole universe, wherein harmony and balance are needed for a stable and joyful life.

Modern medicine understands the human body like a mechanical apparatus, which can be taken care of by exchanging parts, or giving medicine to create health. Balance in Allopathy should lead to the absence of disease. Balance in TCM is only the first step to being harmonious with everything.

Acupuncture mostly talks of energy that runs through the body along meridians.

Modern medicine exclusively talks about DNA, cells and atoms.

However both alternative and modern medicine agree there is some sort of intelligence inside all of us that runs the body. Both methods agree that at times it may be necessary to impact the energy/the body for it to help it heal. But they are strongly disagreeing with the methods.

TCM restores balance by adjusting the energy follows the meridians. This way the body receives help to reach balance, so that it can heal itself.

Allopathy kills off viruses by poisoning, or it soothes by dulling neuro receptors with synthetic chemicals. Acupuncture on the other hand, makes use of the meridians to adjust up the natural production of the bodys chemicals that naturally soothes when pain occurs.

The reason why there is such a variety of ways of treatment is a cultural one. It is not a scientific reason, but more a difference in view of the world.

The result is that you cant compare treatment methods let alone diagnosis methods, because the language and the understanding used to formulate what is wrong or how to treat it is altogether different in nature. And as such, it makes no sense to ask how TCM deals with cancer, or how Allopathy evaluates an energy deficiency in the meridian system.

Thats the reason why you as a patient have to choose what worldview resembles your own, before using either Traditional Chinese medicine or Allopathy. While you try to cure what you believe to be a cancer, then the acupuncturist could let you know it is something totally different, and you might loose faith in his/her skill in treating you back to balance. On the other hand, if you trust the energy explanation of Traditional Chinese medicine, then anyone telling you that you have to operate out your spleen, since it causes an issue, or is of less importance, will make you believe they are crazy, because all organs are needed even the spleen.

So how do we overcome obstacles with understanding and welcoming differences between Traditional Chinese medicine and Modern medicine? As a beginning we need to develop a common language, to characterize what each system believes is happening. This is difficult to say the least, because how we describe also stems from varied cultural references.

And even more so it is testing to accept the worldview of the other method, and to welcome that it is efficient, based on its own truths.

The answer lies in keeping an open mind, and giving others credit for what they have accomplished. And also to accept that everyone is doing their very best. If all sides will do that, then there may be hope for an acceptance between Acupuncture and Allopathy.
