Hersonissos is home to the only golf course on Crete Island so if you fancy teeing off in the beautiful island countryside this is the place to go. If youre a beginner, the Aegean Golf Academy offers lessons from just 40 Euros or if youre an experienced player you can make the most of the 300m double-ended driving range, putting green and practice bunker. The Par-71 course has 18 holes and has been the venue for many international tournaments so why not take on the challenge this summer and see how well you can do?
Horse Riding
Horse riding on holiday can be totally different to horse riding back in England so even if you dont usually enjoy the thought of trotting along the road on horseback, I recommend you give it a go in Hersonissos. Finikia Stables will pick you up from your hotel, give you some basic training over a cup of coffee and then take you out horse riding for three hours in the islands stunning mountains. Arion Stables also offers the chance to explore the area on horseback or if you prefer something less energetic they also arrange horse drawn carriage rides.
Bike hire
Another popular way to explore the area is by hiring a mountain bike and following some of the trails and paths through the mountains or along the coast. You can hire push-bikes, motorbikes or quad bikes but if you fancy a really good laugh, hire a buggy! Look around online before you go to see if you can get any discounts if you pre-book your bikes.
Scuba diving
Diving is very popular in Hersonissos so you shouldnt find it difficult to locate a diving school near your hotel. ScubaKreta and Coral Diving Center are just two of the companies in Hersonissos which offer PADI certification, guided dives and hire of scuba equipment and prices start from 35 Euros for one dive and 15 Euros for full equipment hire. On request you can sail over to Dia Island for a dive or explore a nearby wreck.
Fishing
Boat trips regularly leave Hersonissos beach and many offer special fishing packages on glass bottomed boats or trips over to fishing villages like Sissi. Prices vary from company to company but you can usually buy tickets for a full day trip for around 15 Euros.
Waterpark
Star Beach Waterpark is a must for anybody staying in Hersonissos. Kids will love the slides, adventure playground, baby pools, trampolines and river ride, teenagers and young holidaymakers will enjoy the bigger slides, bungy jumping, parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving and the free foam party at 4pm every day with its bikini competition and games and parents can relax at the Spa Centre with a massage or enjoy a cocktail in one of the four bars. The park has over 20 lifeguards on duty at all times and with completely free entry its a fantastic day out for the whole family!
