, should I bring the young children with me on our ibiza yacht hire? Well, my answer is a resounding YES.That is for any youngster older than three years. My daughter first came on our first ibiza boating experience when she was 3 and a half. She instantaneously looked comfortable and declared that she was enjoying herself enormously. At the time she had the amazing instinct all children that age have, going about our ibiza cruising yacht correctly with a very sure foot. She rose properly up and down the companionway and she immediately started looking into all the corners of our stunning ibiza sailing yacht.
My girl is now 12 and she has since been on our ibiza boat on a great number of one-week charters. She really assists all around the ibiza yacht and she is content as larry with the activities on board and round the island.
We imagined it would be useful to put together a bit of help and advice to make your children happy and secure on a yacht hire around ibiza.
The important thing to achieve a successful ibiza charter with children is simple: make them participate in the adventure, explain what you are doing, get them engaged and put them in charge of some things, changing the latter as they get older. Never underestimate children. Do not believe they are too little to do this or that, unless, of course, it is a matter of pure muscle, and if the child is under 4 or 5, there are things she just can't do. However, you could make her believe and help her discretely, so that she will feel proud being part of the ibiza sailing crew. Here are a few things I have experienced with my daughter through the years.
From 3 to six year old
Systematically explain exactly what goes on on the boat. Show and name the main parts of the boat. Explain what their functions are.
Occasionally ask him/her simple questions about what you outlined. In the dinghy, going slow, show the child how to steer -obviously, you retain control at all times. Tell him/her that soon, he/she is definitely the dinghy Captain. That really works wonders!
Take the child in your lap when you are steering the large boat (conditions permitting.) Explain what you're doing and watching out for.Show a number of very simple knots, making the child apply them in some situations. Produce the situations if necessary.Of course, use simple words for all of the above, and congratulate him/her for each and every achievement.
Placed on board several picture books for children, concerning the current environment: fish and corals, stars and, needless to say boats.Ensure that he/she helps clearing and tidying his/her room every day. The child has to understand very quickly that a boat may not be messy.
From 6 to nine year old
Keep clarifying everything that goes on on the boat, as well as the parts and their functions. Only now, you can be more precise and a somewhat more technical. If the child is responding well, you can be even more technical.Have your son or daughter near you when preparing your map-reading for the next day. If he/she asks questions, explain.When under way, use a baby chart like the one given by some charter companies to show the child the navigation path.
