A new passenger terminal is soon to be added to the Abu Dhabi airport. The development work is already underway, and it is going to be set amidst two runways. It will be named Midfield Terminal. This terminal is expected to be ready by the end of 2016. The capacity of handling passengers is going to touch approximately 20 million annually after this terminal comes into use. Passengers coming through various flights to Abu Dhabi will be using this terminal.
A runway is also being constructed in the expansion project of the airport. It will be 4,100 (m) long and is going to be constructed parallel to the existing runway. Between these two runways, a new tower that is going to be 110 m long will be constructed with a new Air Traffic Control Centre. All these development taking place in the existing airport will enhance cargo and passenger capabilities. Maintenance facilities are also going to be improved. Beside these development activities, other commercial developments are also going to take place in the north of the current airport. Many cheap flights to Abu Dhabi are also available making it easier for budget travelers to visit this incredible destination.
Skytrax has given three star rating to this airport on the basis of the facilities offered by the airport. 10 new gates have been added to this terminal 3, and two of these gates are compatible for use by A380. To solve the problem of increasing air traffic volume, Abu Dhabi airport is gearing up.
