ADP Payment for CPAP
Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is a program initiated by the Ministry of Health
and Long-Term Care that pays for continuous or autotitrating positive airway pressure devices. ADP payment for CPAP program is available for Ontario residents who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. To receive this facility, the person also requires a valid Health Card issued in their name and should satisfy the medical standards prescribed by the ADP.The ADP payment for CPAP program is given to a person who was referred to a registered ADP sleep clinic by the family physician. At ADP sleep clinic he will undergo diagnostic tests to determine the basic cause of disruptive sleep by a specialized sleep medicine physician. ADP application will be completed if the physician confirms that the person has obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The sleep physician and sleep clinic staff will then decide the equipment the person required to treat the disorder.
ADP payment for CPAP is 75 percent, meaning the patient needs to pay only the balance 25 percent of the equipment. ADP will pay full amount if the person is receiving social assistance benefits from Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program. Also, many health insurance companies cover the patients' 25 percent share.
The CPAP or APAP equipment and supplies can be bought from any respiratory vendor who is registered with ADP. ADP payment for CPAP will directly pay the 75 percent portion of the cost of equipment. Registered respiratory vendor may charge their clients a price less than the approved ADP price but may not charge more than the ADP approved price.
A CPAP or APAP system consists of a CPAP/APAP device, heated humidifier, basic mask and headgear, carrying case, 6 ft tubing, all necessary caps and filters, power cord and patient instruction manual. The respiratory vendor may invoice the client for 100 percent of the cost if the products that the client required are not part of the CPAP or APAP system.
All respiratory vendors registered with the ADP payment for CPAP will ensure their clients receive appropriate instructions for the safe use of the equipment. ADP funded CPAP/APAP systems must have a 3-year warranty. Additional services such as an extended warranty, yearly pressure checks and calibrations or pressure adjustments are provided by the respiratory vendor to the clients for an additional cost apart from the ADP payment for CPAP funding support.
The ADP vendor must provide service package to its clients with the option to purchase the service package separately. The vendor should not offer the service package as mandatory service at the time of purchasing the CPAP or APAP device under ADP payment for CPAP funding program. Service packages exclude the initial instruction in the use and maintenance of the CPAP or APAP device.
If the product is no longer working and cannot be repaired ADP will contribute towards the cost of a replacement of the product. But there is a time limit of five years. A new ADP form signed by the doctor is needed to prove that the person yet meet the eligibility demands.
