Although it's customary for the bookmakers to place odds to see if it's a White Christmas each year, for some, that realisation is not welcomed. ACCA students may find themselves at a bit of a disadvantage, at such a crucial stage of their ACCA exam preparation, with many not being able to travel into their respective colleges.

The recent large build up of snow in the capital, has caused havoc to the London transport systems, with trains being cancelled, pavements too icy and cold to walk along, roads and public transport too congested and heavily delayed, effectively leaving some ACCA students cut off from their in-class studies.

But the problem isn't contained solely to the students. Many of the colleges providing the ACCA courses are also finding the recent snow conditions troublesome, with admin staff and even lecturers not being able to make it in. With the December ACCA exams just around the corner, every hour for revision and preparation could be vital to the students' success.ACCA students hindered by the downpour of snow in London, UK

But this begs the question of what contingencies and alternatives are out there - both for emergency situations when everyday ACCA students are incapable of getting to college, and also in the case of those students who don't even have the advantage of attending an ACCA college in the first place? Could E-learning and Distance Learning provide a suitable solution?

Should it be acceptable for ACCA colleges to utilise remote conference teaching systems in dire times, especially at crucial points such as the near build-up to ACCA exams? And if so, how will their ACCA student attendees feel about such efforts? Will they see the technological alternative as a cop-out; that as students they have paid their fees to their college and therefore should have the right to a face-to-face lecturer as agreed? Or, with their impending ACCA exams just ahead, and the true possibility of classes being cancelled due to adverse weather, will they look at the remote E-learning system as the perfect backup plan?

As for the other half, those less fortunate and unable to attend an ACCA college in person may have no choice but to accept E-learning and Distance Learning packages as their only option. However, don't feel too bad for those students just yet... these alternative remote study packages are not quite as novel and limited as they used to be. In fact, they could be more useful for your ACCA studies than you realise.

The study environment in London may be a snowy blizzard out there for now... but there could be a silver lining in the near future.
