Macau - a city-casino in the Middle Kingdom. So many names has Macau all over the world! Place of debauchery and vice, the city where wishes come true, the Chinese Monte-Carlo, the gambling Mecca and so on... In fact, we are talking about a relatively small town, located in one of the most beautiful bays of the South-East China - Macau, which is just 10 years ago was a deaf Portuguese colony. Today Macau is a paradise for sinners, where the game goes around the clock. Five years ago the city, unwittingly, has become a major gambling center of the world. Famous Las Vegas and Monte Carlo in comparison with it faded and are left far behind. But during the day on the old paved roads, made by the Portuguese in the Mediterranean style still in the XVII century, it is more desolate in Macau than at night, when people simply have nowhere to step. However it is not so simply to get to this city of gambling and vice, as it might seem at first. Before entering into it from the Mainland, you must prove that you have with at least two thousand dollars cash. Otherwise, you will not be let in Macao. To get into the realm of vice you must obtain a visa, because, although Macau is a part of China, it's still a special area and is associated with gambling, which is forbidden in the Middle Kingdom. Inhabitants do not consider themselves Chinese, even though due to the official statistics 97% of city residents are Chinese. Another 2% are Portuguese. Real Macau people, descendants of mixed marriages between Chinese and Portuguese, are less than one percent. But at the same time with skyscrapers and bustling casinos on the background there is completely different Macau on a tiny piece of the land here - small and patriarchal. Everything is the same there as several centuries ago, when the Portuguese established the first settlement of Europeans in Asia at this place. Small houses, baroque churches are sticked on here, just as in the cities of Portugal.
