Here are some ways suggested by teen recovery programs, in common, to prevent depression

Be associated with positive, happy and non-judgmental people. Keep an open attitude towards life and think that no matter what happens, there is a way to solve it.

Dig into the support system of your family members, friends and teachers. Do not bottle in your thoughts, share them with people you trust and can give well-meaning advice; this can definitely make you feel light and happier.

Eat a good diet that comprises fruit, vegetable and nuts. It is shown that eating red meat and oily food can make a person feel stressful because they can increase the blood pressure in the body.

Get 8 hours of sleep so that the mind and the body feel fresh. It has been seen that if you are stressed, you tend to feel better if you take a nap for some time.

Exercise at least three times a week, it can work wonders.

Keep a schedule of events that you'd like to do in a day. This will not over-burden you and you will find a sense of rhythm and balance in your life.

Read positive books, watch good films to make you feel better. It is possible that loss of someone near and dear can obviously make you feel sad but you should learn to accept that life can be bitter-sweet and everyone has problems.

As a parent, friend or well-wisher if you feel that the teen is suffering from too much stress, tell him or her to take it easy. You can also take him or her to a good teen rehabfacility where the counselors will be able to chat with him, and use cognitive therapy and anti-stress therapies to make the teen feel better and positive about life.
