In July and August you can enjoy the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival that lasts for 3 weeks and provides a series of events and activities that you won't want to miss. Also in February the Buxton Festival also takes place at the Opera House and the Buxton Festival Fringe takes place. Both of these Festivals are fabulous and not to be missed.

The Buxton Festival provides wonderful Handel productions, rare operas, artists from around the word and spectacular orchestras. The Buxton Festival Fringe is the 2nd largest arts festival in the country and offers arts and cultural festivals, dance, comedy, music and more. The Four Four Time Music Festival is also an event that you won't want to miss. A fabulous event that is incredibly entertaining and fun.

The Buxton Opera House is a beautiful building that you must take time to explore. It has been completed returned to its original condition and the details in the interior and exterior architecture are amazing. Next to the Opera House you can continue your adventure in the 23 acre Pavillion Gardens. Well Dressing Weekend each summer is unique to Buxton and you will find the carnival, fair, live music, rides, and games a delight for the family who is on holiday here.

An amazing natural site is located by the River Wye. Poole's Cavern is a 300 metre Limestone that is open to the public. It's got amazing stalagmites. These caverns were home to both the Neolithic and Bronze Age inhabitants of the region.

Across from Buxton Opera House and the Crescent, which you also must see, is the Old Hall Hotel. This beautiful hotel is one of the oldest working hotels in England. Built in 1670, this fabulous piece of history has all of the modern amenities. There are en suite bathrooms, Internet, and wonderful rooms. You can even say in the room that Mary Queen of Scots is thought to have stayed in when she came to St. Anne's for the healing water.

The Palace Hotel, a "newer" hotel built in 1868 is another stunning place to stay that also offers complete modern conveniences in the historic beauty of Buxton. Both of these hotels have dining rooms that provide world class cuisine.
