Probably the most important thing to say is that you should make your honeymoon arrangements at the same time as you are making your wedding plans. You should resist this and just look at what you need from your travel policy and stick to your guns. These things always seem convenient at the time and sound like a good deal, but it pays to shop around and make comparisons before you decide to take out your policy,
There two schools of thought about honeymoon insurance. One says that a normal travel policy will suffice and you do not need some special `honeymoon` label attached to it. However, there are a lot of items and things that you do on your honeymoon that you simply would not do on a normal holiday. For example, the cost of most of the things you do will probably have cost more. You will almost certainly have gifts with you, or expensive jewellery, things that may not be covered adequately by a standard travel policy. Make sure that the sums insured cover the costs and value of your possessions.
Make sure that your intended activities are covered. We can not over-emphasise this too much. People go on these extravagant trips, they go scuba diving, bungee jumping, mountaineering, horse riding and many others without realising that a lot of them are not covered by their standard travel policy.
Once you have that sorted out, you need to check out the excesses on the policy. By that we mean by what amount do you have to pay the first part of any claim before the insurance kicks in? Excesses can be a source of much contention when a claim is made, so get it right before you go. Check a number of different policies and decide which offers the best in respect of the excesses. If there is something you are going to do that incurs a heavy excess, ask your travel agent or insurer if it is possible to pay an additional premium to have these reduced.
Make sure that your policy covers the part of the world to which you are travelling. This may sound obvious, but you will find that most `off the shelf` travel policies are tailored for the European market, what is known as the Eurozone.
