5 Safe Travel Tips For The Middle East

If you are planning a trip to the Middle East then you probably aren't planning to break your leg or lose your bag

, that's why you take out travel insurance right? It's safe to say that we don't want to think about the unthinkable when we are making our travel plans but you can certainly take the stress out of any situation if you have proper travel insurance cover.

Taking a trip to the Middle East is no different than travelling in any other region of the world when it comes to safety. All travellers should take the same amount of care no matter where they are in the world and to be continually on guard to avoid trouble.

For some reason, the Middle East is often singled out for special treatment, largely because of the political unrest that has been experienced there over the last decade or more. But, political unrest aside you will find that the travel dangers are the same no matter where you go, so let's take a look at some things you can do to keep you on the straight, narrow and safe path.

Try not to look like a tourist. It is self evident that if you look and dress like a tourist you will attract attention from all types of characters looking to have you stay in their hotel, sell you something, or simply try to rob you. This doesn't mean you have to go out of your way too much, it just means trying to look as much like the locals as you possibly can. Don't wear outlandish colours or have numerous cameras strung around your neck, and whatever you do don't wear too much jewellery. In fact it's better if you don't wear any jeweller and if you have to wear a watch make sure it's a cheap one.5 Safe Travel Tips For The Middle East

Plan your day in advance. One of the tell-tale signs that thieves often recognise is someone who looks lost. If you plan your day well in advance and become aware of street signs and landmarks you can more easily blend into the local crowd without attracting attention. Knowing where you are going will also make your day more enjoyable.

Choose good hotels. Part of your planning will be choosing accommodation and by selecting only hotels with a good reputation you will experience the peace of mind that savvy travellers have enjoyed on all their travels.

Don't use public transport too often. Using public transport can certainly save you money, but you should be aware that thieves often frequent railway stations and crowded situations where pick pocketing is a lot easier. Use a taxi whenever the situation requires it, especially when you are carrying a lot of luggage or have been shopping and are carrying a number of shopping bags.

Make sure you have adequate travel insurance. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, no one plans to break a leg or be robbed. Just make sure you have proper travel insurance in place to save you from a nasty experience.
