5 Biggest Brands For Women's Sneakers

Sneakers are an iconic American design that has defined generations

. While Sneakers have evolved considerably from the initial designs, they remain a staple of most closets because of their comfortable fit, relatively low cost. However, because of their ubiquitous distribution, it can be hard to find a pair of sneakers online when there are hundreds of brands that offer this style and several hundred different models currently being made. Discussed in this article are the largest brands that make women's sneakers.

Skechers - Skechers Footwear is the single largest contributor to the sneakers category. While now a household name, Skechers is actually a relative newcomer to the footwear industry who got their push to success making sneakers designed exclusively for the urban jungle. Their catalog of shoes remains predominantly sneakers. Traditional lace up sneakers start around $40 a pair and end around $80 a pair. Shoes price above this range tend to be their specialty shoes such as the Skechers Fitness Shoes.

Gola - While Skechers started selling exclusively sneakers and has expanded far beyond that, Gola footwear remains almost entirely dedicated to the sneaker. Most styles have the flat sole and canvas top true to the original stylings introduced in the mid 20th century by Keds. Prices range from $55 to $90 a pair. From $90 to $130 a pair, Gola then offers a line of calf boots that have the same flat rubber sole consistent with their sneaker lineup. In wear and feel, these boots feel like wearing traditional sneakers but with a very different look.

PUMA - While PUMA also makes a number of athletic shoes, the bulk of their collection is made up of sneakers. Styles include the traditional flat sole with a canvas top, to more contemporary styles similar to Skechers. A traditional sneaker starts around $45 a pair and contemporary designs start around $10 more a pair. The entire collection tops out at around $120 a pair though traditional designs are not found for more than $60 a pair.

Piro - The Piro collection is relatively small with only about 30 models in the current catalog but nearly all of those models are just a simple variation in colors and pattern of the same style. Piro sneakers differ from other styles in that they are composed of a breathable mesh upper that permits maximum air exchange. This feature is more common in athletic shoes, and most Piro Sneakers could easily be considered athletic shoes. With only a few designs, prices fall in a narrow range between $40 and $60 a pair.

Keds - No discussion of sneakers for women would be complete without discussing Womens Keds Shoes. Keds introduced the original sneaker in the mid 20th century. Keds sneakers became a cultural icon that defined a generation. Much of their catalog remains true to the original designs containing a flat rubber sole and a canvas upper. If you are looking for a true to its name sneaker, Keds is what you are looking for. Prices range from $20 to $50 a pair.

Because sneakers is such a large category, many other brands also offer a large collection of sneakers. Other big brands include: Etnies, Saucony, Superga, Gotta Flurt, PF Flyers, Grasshoppers, Converse, Hush Puppies, Reebok, and Vans.

A closet is incomplete without a pair of sneakers in them, and with so many brands offering them, there are many choices when shopping for women's sneakers. If you want traditional sneakers stick to brands such as Keds and Gola, and if you want more contemporary sneakers, check out newer brands like Skechers and PUMA.
