Before we come to the benefits of yoga, you should first understand what yoga is all about. Yoga in reality is managing to develop strength and flexibility by practicing a series of physical poses either in quick succession or slowly, in order to develop stamina and endurance.

However, we should understand that flexibility comes only with regular practice and not over night. Therefore, in order to have a strong and yet flexible body, you need to practice yoga for at least a couple of years.

There are various yoga styles; to name a few we have Hatha which teaches the basic yoga postures wherein one is taught to move in a slow relaxed manner, in order to help you learn the art smooth flowing liquid movements.

Vinyasa includes a number of sun salutation poses that synchronize with your breathing. This takes a lot of practice and concentration as well. Ashtanga, is more strenuous as it is a form of yoga where in you switch from one pose to the next in quick succession.

As a beginner it would take an individual time to perfect the poses and move gracefully from one pose to the next without any unnecessary jerky motions. Yoga poses are called asanas and each asana is supposed to have a specific physical as well as mental benefit. It is therefore safe to conclude that the benefits of yoga are numerous.

It has been proved beyond doubt that yoga increases endurance, energy level, immunity, cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency, joint range of motion, strength and resiliency. It also plays a vital role in improving balance, sleep, dexterity skills, eye-hand coordination, mood, memory, attention, concentration and posture. All in all, if you want to lose weight, be stronger and more flexibility, you can adopt yoga as part of your daily workout.
