Only when she found she could barely make out what others were saying did she think of asking for help.A manager of a popular park, this woman became among the first to be part of the Central Institute for the Deaf's mouth lip reading program. The program is aimed at older executives who are leading more active lives while coping with age related hearing loss.
One of the experts who helps out in the lip reading program states that the ability to transmit sound becomes lost with age. Through this program, this woman was able to get preventive maintenance.
Spoken language is a crucial factor in the careers of most people. Around four students at most are accommodated in the one hour class that meets once a week for four weeks.
Interactive videos are viewed for about thirty minutes to hone lip reading skills. They attempt to figure out the exact words mouthed by a woman who shows no expressions.
Oftentimes, they imitate the woman's mouth as she gives the words.
When students cannot make out what is being said they can ask for a clue or they can have the sentence said in another way. These are aids in helping you read lips.
Age related hearing loss which is also called presbycusis results because the inner ear becomes unable to process certain sounds.
The first ones that become difficult to make out are the high pitched sounds. Mumbling people onscreen is the first thing they'll complain of when they watch TV.
Hearing aids don't necessarily offer the help that people with presbycusis need.
It becomes a greater problem during situation where a lot of background noise occurs. Thinking that they have inabilities preventing them from competing with younger colleagues, they detach themselves from others and become gloomy.
