 India's Wildlife Preserves And National Parks.

The dense tropical forests of India give shelter to more than 1200 species of birds and 350 mammals

. There are 59 National Parks and 372 sanctuaries in various parts of the country. If we go according to region, the wildlife parks can be categorized into North India Wildlife Parks, South India Wildlife Parks, East India Wildlife Parks, West India Wildlife Parks and Central India Wildlife Parks. All these wildlife parks constitute a wonderful place to enjoy the company of the wild.

The wildlife parks in North India are:

Corbett National Park: It is a tiger reserve in the foothills of the Himalayas, with the Ramganga River flowing through it.

Nanda Devi National Park: Situated near the Nanda Devi Peak, it houses black bear, snow leopards, chir pheasants, etc.  India's Wildlife Preserves And National Parks.


Chilla Sanctuary: The place is mainly known for elephants.

Melghat Tiger Reserve: Being a dense teak forest, it houses numerous species of wildlife.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park: It is one of the most renowned water bird sanctuaries in the world.

Panna National Park: The major wildlife varieties are sloth bear, wolf, tiger, chital, sambhar and chinkara.

Dachigam National Park: It is home to the Kashmir stag""the single species of red deer in India.

Dudhwa National Park: It is famous as a tiger reserve.

Great Himalayan National Park: Wild mountain goats, leopards and colorful birds are the main inhabitants.

Palamu Tiger Reserve: Predators like tigers, leopards and Indian wolf are common here.

Kanchenjunga National Park: Comprising of wet temperate forests, this park is home to a wide variety of birds and animals.

Sariska National Park: It mainly houses predators and carnivores.

Sultanpur Jheel Bird Sanctuary: It has 30 artificial islands visited by migratory birds.

Sanjay National Park: Tiger, wild boar, leopard and birds are the main attractions.

South India has the following wildlife parks:

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary: It is home to some wonderful flora and fauna.

Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Sanctuary: Some very rare animals like gaurs, chitals, and panthers are found here.

Nagarjunasagar Snsailam Sanctuary: It is India"s largest tiger reserve.

Bandipur and Nagarhole National Park: These are two parks, which constitute a large wildlife reserve.

Mudumalai Sanctuary: The main attractions are elephant, gaur, deer and the bonnet macaque.

Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary: Crocodiles and migratory birds are the major attractions.

Periyar National Park: It houses primates and exquisite birds.

The wildlife parks in East India are:

Manas Tiger Reserve: The major inhabitants are rhino, water buffalo, elephant and tiger.

Namdapha National Park: The place is filled with diverse flora and fauna.

Keibul Lam Jao National Park: It is famous as the home of the Sangai or Manipur brow-antlered deer.

Sunderbans National Park: The main inhabitant is the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.

Simlipal National Park: It is especially known for the mouse deer, the smallest of the deer.

The wildlife parks in West India are:

Gir National Park and Sanctuary: It is famous for the lion and has a large variety of birds.

Bondla Sanctuary: It is the smallest sanctuary and houses leopards, wild boars and sambhars.

Bandhavgarh National Park: Once a royal hunting place, it house numerous flora and fauna. White tiger was last seen at this national park.

Ranthambore National Park: It is the most renowned Tiger Reserve in India with many sambhars, nilgais and chitals.

Kanha National Park: Especially a tiger reserve, it also has a variety of deer and wild pig.
