Before You Leave Town - Travel Trailer Tires And More

Before you hit the road in your new or used recreational vehicle or towable travel trailer, you will want to make sure it is safe to ride. There are several things that you can do before getting on the road with your RV and travel trailer tires to ensure you and your traveling companions a safe, enjoyable trip. Read the tips below on what you should spend time doing in preparation to your RV and travel trailer tires.

Consider the following:

1. Look first at the weather for the location that you will be driving to and through in your used or new RV motor home. Do this so that you can adequately prepare the unit, the travel trailer tires, and other items specifically for the trip.

2. No matter whether you will be traveling in the sunshine, the rain, or the snow, you need to check your travel trailer tires. Look at the air pressure in each of the travel trailer tires, and then look at their tread. You do not want too little or too much tread or air in the travel trailer tires. By doing this, you could prevent a blow out and serious wreck.

3. If you will be going to the cold, snowy weather, you will want to make sure you have chains or the appropriate type of travel trailer tires. There are specific travel trailer tires that were created just for cold, icy weather and roads.

4. Once the travel trailer tires have been checked, check out the engine, lights, brakes, etc. Make sure all gas appliances, including the furnace and refrigerator are sealed properly. Take the RV to your local mechanic for a full body check up.

Other items to do before you hit the road:

1. Double check that you have current, and up to date insurance cards for your RV on board the motor home and in your purse or wallet. Keep the RV insurance card in an easy to reach place, such as the glove box.

2. Leave the dates and location of your trip with family members or neighbors. They should also have copies of all important phone numbers and information.

3. Make an extra set of keys for the RV. Hide them on board, but also keep a spare set with easy to reach family members and/or neighbors.

4. You will also want to pack and/or replenish your first aid kit. A first aid kit is a great tool to have on board the RV when traveling and camping. Keep band aids, bandages, and other creams/ointments available for emergencies.
