When Not To File A Car Insurance Claim

Car insurance helps protect drivers financially against potential accidents that may result in considerable financial cost

. Insurance policies, after all, are patronized by people because of the monetary security that it assures them. This is also the reason why most, if not all, car owners get their cars insured. However, not because you have a car insurance with a good coverage does not automatically mean that you can get them every time you want them. A wise insurance policy holder knows that there are certain circumstances when filing an insurance claim is not the most feasible thing to do.

This is a common scenario among people: When they met a minor incident on the road, like accidentally bumping into a car while they are getting out from a parking lot and the other car got scratched, they instantly think of letting their insurance provider pay for the damages. Often, such minor incidents only cause very minimal damage on their car and the other one; which can be easily paid off by getting some dollars from their pockets or by charging it to their credit cards. But for some reason, they rely too much on car insurance claims, even with such minor problem.

While this is an instant reaction to many, these people fail to recognize the eventual consequences of filing a claim. When a person meet a road hitch and file a claim, they risk higher premiums in the next months of years. Such claims will be used by insurance providers to increase your monthly premium, which can be very disadvantageous for you in the long run. If the damage just costs up to a few hundred dollars, it is better to charge it to your pocket than have your insurance firm pay for them. You may think that you spend quick cash, but it can definitely be beneficial for you in the long run.

However, not filing a claim does not automatically mean that you have to hide the incident from your insurance provider. You have to make an insurance notification to let them know what happened. This will save you from the future trouble of having your provider discover the incident and speculate on why you hid it. Thus, wrong assumptions may surf up which also causes increase in your premium. It is better that they get the information from you, on record and all clear than be surprised by eventual findings. When Not To File A Car Insurance Claim

Remember that having an insurance claim should not make you too lenient on relying on them so much. Be a wise policy holder and use your insurance just when you need it the most. You may not know when you will badly need it. And before you may know it, your provider already drops coverage.
