Scope of this researchWealth Management in Australia 2009 - Selected Insights

We conducted interviews with 100 wealth managers across Australia, India, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore during March 2009.

17 wealth managers were located in Australia and included a mix of private banks, advisory firms and asset managers.

Our Australian sample were a mix of leading local and international wealth providers along with some of the more niche operators.

We asked a range of qualitative and quantitative questions to wealth managers about their HNW clients and their business operations.

Research and analysis highlights

HNW investors became more defensive in 2009, equities represented a smaller share of their portfolios while cash increased.

Australian HNWs have superior knowledge of products and understanding of market conditions. As such, Australian clients are likely to consider more sophisticated products in the future .

Australian HNWs appear more loyal to their wealth managers as compared to the Asia Pacific average. They are less likely to switch to another wealth manager or leave to manage their own money.
