Treatment For Low Back Pain

Treatment For Low Back Pain

I have always been amazed at the amount of patients I see in my clinic seeking treatment for low back pain

. One day in my clinic, might make you think low back pain is the latest epidemic in America. According to The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), in 2007, about 27 million adults in the US, aged 18 or older, reported having back pain. That is 11% of the total adult population. The AHRQ says that in 2007, the costs for back pain was over $30 billion in medical care and disability payments. That means that in 2007, the collective costs for back pain more than doubled since 2004. Maybe an epidemic is not too strong a choice for words when it comes to back pain.

What is the best treatment for low back pain then? What are the millions of Americans with this problem doing for treatment? Most people in pain want to be pain free as soon as possible and by any means necessary. This makes perfect sense. The problem is if this treatment will have permanent results, or if they will suffer any side effects.

In the urgent treatment for low back pain, some doctors will prescribe muscle relaxants such as Soma, Flexeril, and Valium. These drugs are used to relieve muscle pain and spasms. These most likely work by depressing the central nervous system.

They simply mask the pain you are having. They can be highly addicting and will always have some type of side effect such as drowsiness. These are meant to be a short term treatment when pain is very high, but many patients become addicted to them and develop dependence, causing them to increase their dosage. Of course a high enough dosage can result in an overdose. Treatment For Low Back Pain

Another conventional treatment for low back pain is the use of opiate pain relievers such as Codeine, Morphine, or Oxycodone. These drugs can be highly addicting with lots of side effects like drowsiness, confusion, vomiting, and even impaired breathing. There is also an overdose possibility as well.

A very common conventional treatment for low back pain is the use of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Celebrex, Feldine, and over the counter ones like Bayer and Advil. These drugs can reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. They work by blocking enzymes, proteins or prostaglandins. Side effects include ulcers, skin rashes, and stomach upset.

The problem with the three methods listed above is they offer no long term benefit and all have risks and side effects. Treatment For Low Back Pain

Of course there is also surgery which may or may not be necessary. Just because a doctor recommends surgery, does not mean this is the best treatment for low back pain for you. There may be times when this option is necessary, but sometimes it just is not necessary, yet it still may be recommended.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine, can have outstanding results with low back pain. Most of my patients that come into my clinic for low back pain treatment, have a strong pain reduction after only one acupuncture treatment. Then the patient comes in 2-3 times a week until the pain is completely gone. This can be anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months. When this treatment is combined with herbs the results are even quicker and far superior.

I have developed two extremely effective low back pain treatment formulas that you can find on the Eastern Essentials website. One is for Acute Low Back Pain and the other is for Chronic Low Back Pain. These herbal formulas are made of 100% natural herbs, concentrated into potent extracts. There have been no reported side effects and there is no risk for dependence or addiction. These formulas actual help heal low back pain, and not simply just mask the pain.
