Target Marketing - Essential To Your Business
Share: Determining who it is you will be marketing to is an essential first step to starting your online business
. Take the time to think this through before you get too far along in the process.
Whatever Business You Want to Build
You actually need to answer these questions even if you are plugging into an existing marketing model such as network marketing, MLM or affiliate marketing.
Online home businesses require you first to answer the questions about your target market because everything you do will be guided by this one driving force. That is, your keyword research, your overall strategy and marketing plans. Yes, you must know how to attract a given market but first you must answer who that given market is.
Start Here
Who is the market you are seeking? What are their likes and dislikes? Who do they buy from now? Is it a couple, a single, a male a female, a dog owner, a cat owner? Do they work? Where? What do they do for recreation? What kind of car do they drive or do they drive a car? Do they look for discounts? Is price not an issue? Is it a business owner, a part-time employee, a government worker?
An online home business is best focused very narrowly and as razor thin as you can slice it. When considering who buys your products or services seek to answer every question that makes this a unique group or type or place.
Why So Narrow?
The reason this is so important is that online home businesses go in front of millions and millions of people everyday. Most of these are not your potential customer. The vast majority do not know or care that you even exist. The vast majority of those surfing on the internet have nothing to do with you or your interest.
So, your job is to get in front of those who do have an interest in you and you do that by identifying a niche market you can dominate. Decide who your target market is before moving ahead with any of your other marketing plans.
Now, this may seem like you're giving something up - what about all those other millions of people who do not fit your chosen niche, but you need to realize that standing out among tens or hundreds of thousands is doable but among millions or billions is much more challenging.
Your marketing will be very focused once we get to that aspect of building your business. However, before thinking about attracting customers first consider who is the customer.
When advertising offline billboards or newspapers go to the masses and you hope some of your target market will see and respond. In the world of online based businesses you will be placing your ads, or articles, or websites in the area of interested people who will then seek you out because they were looking for you - or what it is that you have to offer.
So, the first order of business is to narrow your audience down to a manageable size by knowing them intimately. You may be able to do this because they are like you in many ways. You may be able to identify these folks by the way they travel throughout the web. But identify them you must.
Identifying your target market and discovering your own niche is your very first assignment and it is of utmost importance in the process of starting, building and growing your online home business.
