Straighten Your Teeth Hassle-free With Invisalign
If you are like the millions of people in America that wish to have a straighter smile then you should talk to your dentist about Invisalign. In many ways, Invisalign proves itself to be more convenient than traditional braces, while still being just as effective at repositioning you teeth to give you a straight smile. Since hitting the market in 1999, Invisalign has helped to straighten the smiles of more than 1.7 million patients. With more and more dentists becoming trained to administer Invisalign to their patients, many people are deciding to wear Invisalign instead of braces.
How Does It Work?
The first thing you should do if you are thinking about straightening your teeth is always to consult with your dentist and go over your options. If you are thinking about using Invisalign, it is important to communicate this to your dentist so he or she can see if you are a good candidate. After you and your dentist have decided to pursue Invisalign as your course of treatment, the first thing your dentist will do is take pictures, X-rays and impressions of your teeth to create a digital 3-D image. From this image, your dentist will be able to map out how your teeth will move and show you how they will look at the end of your treatment.
From the digital image of your teeth, your dentist will provide a set of clear plastic aligners that fit directly on your teeth. You will wear the aligners for approximately 20 hours per day for two weeks at a time. After each two-week period, you will switch to a new set of aligners and little by little, your teeth will slowly move. Approximately every six weeks you will have a scheduled appointment with your dentist to go over your progress and make any adjustments to your treatment. When your teeth have reached the position that you want them, you will simply have a final appointment with your dentist to wrap up your treatment and confirm that everything is finished.
Invisalign vs. Braces
The most obvious and important benefit of Invisalign is the fact that no one will even know you are wearing it. The clear aligners are designed to be undetectable and are in stark contrast to the metal and wires required for traditional braces. In addition, the use of Invisalign allows you to eat whatever you want without restriction. Since you can remove the aligners when you eat, you do not have to worry about getting food caught in anything. If you want to go out with your friends for a night, you can even leave the aligners at home. As long as you wear them the required number of hours per day, your teeth will still continue to move.
