As many 'summer only' bikers dust down their machines after the winter, many motorbike insurers are advising bikes to be careful when riding through puddles. The reason is due to the number of deep potholes which can be filled with water and therefore resemble puddles; however rather than just making a splash - the depth of some of the potholes can be treacherous to bikers.Motorists are well aware of the potential damage potholes can...more
For some people, finding cheap motorcycle insurance appears to be something of a highly trained art. It seems like it takes hours upon hours of work to find a cheap motorcycle insurance policy, requiring for the potential policy holder to trawl through dozens of policies, comparing all of them until they find the one that not only suits their needs, but is also inexpensive.Fortunately, this couldn't be further from the truth. To find cheap...more
It was reported recently by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) that a third of all motorbike insurance policies don't cover misfuelling. According to the research that BIBA carried out, 57% of all motorcyclists in the UK aren't covered should they fill their motorbike up with the wrong fuel, something which they refer to as being a "simple mistake". Upon hearing this statement, it can be tempting to call your insurance company and increase your level of cover to ensure that you are covered in the event of misfuelling, irrelevant of the increased cost, as the whole process of fixing your motorbike should you put diesel in the engine instead of petrol (or vice versa) can be an extremely expensive mistake to resolve. As tempting as it may be, you shouldn't take this route, as you are more likely to be able to receive cheaper motorbike insurance premiums by looking elsewhere and the entire procedure is a lot easier than you may believe. 1. Firstly, take the quote that you have got from your current insurer and understand fully what it does and does not cover. It is important that you have this information to hand and can refer to it, as to get the...more
Unless you've been particularly lucky over the past few years, chances are you will have had to make some cutbacks in your day-to-day spending habits. The Bank of England cut the base rate to a mere 0.5% in March 2009, a low which it has remained at through to the current month of May 2010, to hopefully aid with increasing the confidence that...more
With the announcement that the recent UK election on 6 May 2010 concluded in a hung parliament, everyone is being that extra bit cautious with their finances. The GBP dropped in value after the announcement, a direct reflection of the lack of confidence of the country. Unfortunately, the low GBP value will have a knock on effect on businesses and...more
If you're looking to buy a bike and ride it on public roads in the UK, you need to have in place some type of bike insurance policy. Irrelevant of what type of bike it is, how long you're going to be riding it for or which public road you're going to be riding on, without at least the most basic of bike insurance policies, you are committing an illegal offence and could face losing your license. Whilst this may be the law, like all laws around the world, there is always going to be a handful of people who don't abide by it. Generally speaking, these people do not take out bike insurance because it's too difficult - using the internet, a bike insurance policy can be had in a matter of minutes - but it's more because they believe that they can't afford a policy, occasionally due to the fact that they have previous criminal convictions. Unfortunately, not taking out an insurance policy because you believe that you can't afford one is not a reason that would be accepted in any court hearing and is, to all intents and purposes, not a viable reason at all, as bike insurance can be very much affordable to the majority of people. If you're...more
