Anyone who is applying or have already applied for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree will tell you that it is not an easy task

. The MBA degree program is a difficult academic path, and only the applicants who are deemed to be able to finish it will be chosen. Year after year, a good number of undergraduate students will submit their applications to their preferred business schools that offer MBA degree programs. These prospective applicants usually have similar qualifications and credentials. Many will even be more qualified than the rest. Application, therefore, to an MBA degree program is highly competitive and selective.

Requirements

The requirements for the MBA degree program may vary, but most have the same primary requirements. The first of which is passing the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). This is a standardized test given to prospective MBA students everywhere to test their aptitude in the skills deemed important in an MBA student: mathematical, analytical, and communication skills. Another important requirement, as with any graduate degree application, is the undergraduate transcript of records, together with the applicants other academic files. It would definitely be a plus if the applicant already has a work experience. Work experience may be an advantage not only for the application but also during the program. Other highly important parts of the application is the personal interview, the MBA personal statement, and the letters of recommendation.

The MBA personal statement is actually one of the most important requirements for application to an MBA degree program. Often times, an applicant may only be invited for an interview when his or her application package, including the admission essay, looks well. In the absence of the personal interview, the admission essay will represent the applicant to the admissions committee. And while the applicant may not be able to compete with the GMAT score or the academic records of other applicants, the admission essay will be the one to tell the admissions committee that he or she is fit for the program. The applicant can cite experience and other qualities that will show the committee that he or she has the skills expected from an MBA student, or an MBA degree holder at that. Things to avoid in your admission essay

First of all, your essay should not be boring. Remember that the committee reviews hundreds, if not thousands, of personal statements per batch. A unique essay would let you stay in the minds of the admission committee, though you should be careful not to make it too creative or too informal. Because communication is an important skill of an MBA student, be careful with your grammar, transition, and sentence construction, among others.

Think of your essay as your voice to the committee. Never waste their time; don't write the exact same thing that can already be found in the records you've submitted. You should always be specific, when you mention a quality or a skill, cite experiences or instances when you have shown it. As much as possible, try to highlight your better qualities and avoid dwelling on the negative. And lastly, do not lie--never invent qualities that you do not actually possess. That would not just be good for your application, in case the admissions committee found out about your lies and false declarations.
