How To Find Affordable American Girl Doll Clothes by:Shelby Strong
American Girl dolls are all the rage right now
. They are great for ages 5-12 and provide hours of pretend play for little girls who love to imagine up scenes with dolls that look just like them. The most popular line of American Girl dolls isthe historical line where girls are featured throughout history. For example, there is a Victorian doll that comes with a book that tells her story. Some dolls also have movies or DVDs that feature their character. The books and DVDs are very well done and free of foul language and adult themes. There is also a girl from important eras in American history, like the 1960's. The dolls wear clothes from that period and the book explains what times were like in that particular era.
Not only are American Girl dolls made to last (unlike Barbie), they are also a child's best play mate. However, dolls can get quite pricey at nearly $100 each. There are knock-offs of American Girl dolls, however, the hair seems to be an issue with the knock-offs. Since the hair is one of the favorite parts of the dolls for little girls, this is an issue. It seems that the straight haired American Girl hair is a lot easier to manage than the curly hair. For example, Emily and Elizabeth are good dolls to have because their hair stays nice and doesn't get matted like curly hair sometimes can.
If you are looking to splurge and get the doll, you can save money on additional clothing and accessories for your doll. For example, American Girl sells outfits with their label for upwards of $50 each. You can find other brands of doll clothes that hold up just as well and that are just as pretty for a fraction of the prices. Little Adventures sells great clothes for American Girl dolls or other 18" dolls. They are machine washable and made from quality fabrics that are made to last for years of pretend play with your little girl and her doll.
Little Adventures has a line of princess dress up clothes for dolls too. If your child is into dressing up in princess costumes like most little girls are, they have princess dresses that match, so your child and the doll can match exactly. These are great for hours of imaginative dress up play!

You can often find things like doll shoes and socks, doll suitcases and carriers, glasses, apparel, and other American Girl items, including books and DVDs used on ebay and amazon for remarkable prices.
