Dental Implants: The Right Choice For Missing Teeth

Dental Implants: The Right Choice For Missing Teeth

When most people think of replacing missing teeth

, they think of dentures. Cheap, prevalent, and with a long history behind them, dentures are the standard by which most Americans judge tooth replacement. All that said, it's a fairly poor standard. In fact, dental implants are superior to dentures in almost every measurable way, save cost. When it comes to replacing the only bones in your body exposed to the world, you have to consider how much it is worth to do it right. Here are some of the reasons they are the right choice for missing teeth.

Increased Confidence

If you've never spoken to someone with dentures, you may have missed out on the phenomenon of hearing a distinct clacking sound when they talk. No, not everyone clacks. But many people have a hard time keeping their dentures in place, be they partials or full sets. Some people have a tendency, even, to pull out their partials at a moment's notice. This is no way to go through life. Leaving large gaps in your smile is not going to do much for your confidence, either. With dental implants, you're improving your appearance without the negative side effects that come with cheaper solutions.

Better Functionality

Chewing with missing teeth can be an ordeal, but it can be done, depending on which ones you're lacking. Chewing with dentures can be done as well, but some contend that it takes more getting used to than simply using one's gums. Chewing with dental implants is almost exactly like using your natural teeth. This is because these applications are identical to natural teeth in almost every way. Instead of being set into place with a bracket or glued with ineffective adhesive, they are screwed into the jawbone itself. It's not coming loose. You would have the same chances of yanking a perfectly healthy tooth out by the root as you would accidentally pulling out dental implants that have been put in correctly.

More Convenient

Caring for dentures can be a hassle. If you've ever worn contact lenses, you probably already know the drill. Take them out at night, give them a cleaning, let them soak, put them in the next morning. It doesn't sound like a big deal at first, but it's a routine that can grow immensely tiresome after a while. With dental implants, no such routine is necessary. You care for them just as you do your natural teeth. Keep up with your usual brushing and flossing routine (assuming it's up to standards), and you shouldn't need to do anything else out of the ordinary to keep up with care.
