Many parents who work on a full or part-time basis feel a bit guilty about not being at home with their kids. Even those who have hired dedicated, hard-working nannies or au pairs to help out can feel bad, but there are a few things you can do to maintain a great relationship with your children.

Of course, children will always miss their mummies and daddies; it's just a fact of life. But in doing things such as arranging special activity days, spending one-on-one time with each child and recreating special moments, you can be sure to keep a strong and long-lasting relationship with your little monsters.

Firstly, for kiddies that are dependent on the old favourite, the bed time story, there is a solution for parents that sometimes have to work late Audio Stories. These stories, told on CD or MP3, can provide an excellent alternative for children who like having a story read to them before bed.

Many CDs have different chapters or tracks, and MP3s have a pause function; so if the child gets tired half-way thru, and just wants to sleep, then they can save the rest of the story till tomorrow. Also, it will make having mum or dad reading the story in person even more of a treat and bonding experience; a great thing for all concerned.

Secondly, why not organise really special days for you and your child; perhaps you could go for a picnic, and then see a movie? Or you could really push the boat out and head to a theme park? This will provide some really good bonding time, and help the child continue to understand that although work sometimes gets in the way, they will always come first on your list of priorities.

Lastly, don't be tempted simply to buy material things for your child, in a bid to make them feel more loved. It won't work; all they want is your attention and your love. Be sure to tell them everyday how much you love and appreciate them, and remember that you are a human being as much as a parent. We all make mistakes, and we all feel guilty sometimes.

But as long as you are doing the best job you can, you needn't worry.
