Why Use An Auto Salvage Yard

Why Use An Auto Salvage Yard

An auto salvage yard can be called many things

, a junk yard or even a wrecker's yard just to name a few. In an auto salvage yard de-commissioned or even wrecked cars and trucks are taken apart and the usable parts are sold to mechanics and car owners. Even the unusable parts are taken and sold for scrap metal to other recycling companies.

Normally an auto salvage yard works in a local area. When a car is damaged to the point of no repair or "totaled" because the insurance company has decided that it would cost more to fix then the car is actually worth. In this case the car is usually sold to a auto recycling company for salvage parts.

The auto salvage yard usually has a fleet of tow trucks to help haul away any car that they need too. Many junk yards will actually tow your car for free, just try giving them a call to see what they charge. They will usually only tow a car from its current location to the salvage yard.

Once you get to the salvage yard the cars and trucks are usually situated in rows, sometimes stacked on top of each other. Inventories of what cars and what parts exist at the salvage yard are kept in the office. Most yards have computerized inventory but not everything they have will be in them. Why Use An Auto Salvage Yard

The reason not everything will show in the inventory is many times you have to pull you own parts out of the cars. This saves you money but can make a trip the the salvage yard a hit and miss activity. Some smaller yards and motorcycle yards make you pay to enter the yard but you can pull whatever you want. Other shops require you to leave a deposit and they will have the staff pull it for you. This makes sure you do not damage other parts while pulling the one you want.

The parts that are normally taken off the cars by the salvage yard ate the small easily removable items, like headlights, blinkers, seats, exhaust, mirrors etc. If large expensive parts are at a yard the will usually remove them and rebuild the part. This allows them to make the most money off their parts. Many times they will even offer a warranty on these types of parts.

Many cars are in good working condition when they end up at the auto yard. You can usually find some very cheap cars for under a thousand dollars that you can buy at an auto salvage yard.

So if you are looking to save a buck or two when it comes to your car or truck, you need to go to your local auto salvage yard and see what they have. Why buy new when you can get the same quality for dirt cheap.
