These basic skills are of course very useful in our daily life. Japanese pupils are able to do them because of family class, which is enlightening to us. Maybe we can also teach our children how to do the basic housework and help mother with the housework. However, our education system seem to pay little attention on these basic skills. Japanese students no matter a girl or a boy all have to attend family class in primary schools, but when they are in high schools and colleges, it is not necessary for boys to get educated in family class, which shows the difference existing in educating a boy and a girl in Japan. When in high school, girls can get in tough with the professional knowledge about nutrition and hygienism. What teachers in family class teach was learnt in family in the past. Girls and boys in the past usually have to help mother do the housework and then naturally they will be able to acquire the basic competences of doing the housework. However, nowadays the present condition in Japan do not give such a chance to children any more. Because of the emergence of apartments, many families at present do not have a yard now. As a result, children lose the chance of cleaning a yard which was often done by their fathers. What's more, due to the highly developed technology, a lot of housework is shared by machines like washing machine, dish-washing machine, electronic cooker and so on. In fact, children who are living in the big cities of Japan do not need to cook dinner or make clothes in the daily life. They only do the work in family class. Girls have to learn the lessons of family class for a long time while boys only have to attend family class when they are in primary school. However if boys are really interested in the lessons of family class, they can also require to return to family class and resume their lessons. But if a girl is not interested in the lessons of family class, she can only put up with them till graduation, which seems a little unfair.
