Visits to the ER increase a lot over the summer months from kids playing on anything that has wheels such as bicycles, scooters, skateboards and roller skates. The reason so many kids get hurt is because they don't put on the proper protective gear. A good rule of thumb to teach your kids is if it has wheels they must put on a helmet. Skateboarding and rollerskating also should have knee pads and wrist and elbow pads to prevent broken bones when they fall.
Educating your kids about safety relating to the sun, water and the use of toys with wheels are all parts of your job as a parent or a caregiver for kids.
