Walking and Weight Loss-The Two Go Hand in Hand
Walking and Weight Loss-The Two Go Hand in Hand
Weight loss is something that many strive to achieve. For some reason, this is not any easy goal though. What many do not realize though is that walking can help you reach your desired weight. Walking is great exercise and can happen anywhere and everywhere. It doesn't cost much either, just the priceof a good pair of shoes. The amount of weight depends on many factors though. These include the type of walking you do, your metabolic rate and how many calories you consume on a daily basis. Walking for ten minutes on a daily basis will not produce the results you desire. You need to walk two to four miles a day, five times a week, to get the results you want.
Even if you don't change your diet, walkingcan still help you to lose weight. For the biggestweight loss, you do need to combine walking with calorie reduction. If youstart eating more because you are walking though, youcan still gain weight. When you walk at a rate of two miles per hour, you can burn in the neighborhood of 156 calories. Even if you only walk thirty minutes, you can still burn somewhere around 70 calories. This should be done all at one time so your heart rate increases, otherwise you won't consume as many calories.
When you walk at a faster rate and for a longer period of time, your body will burn more calories for the remainder of the day. Cardiovascular activity of any kind allows your body to do this, as it gets your heart rate up to the maximum level. This is true even if you sit in a chair for the rest of the day.
Pedometers are helpful when your goal is weight loss. This device measures both the distance you have walked and the speed you are walking at. To start, walk a minimum of five days in one week, thirty minutes each time. The second week, walk at a rapid rate for at least one minute during this thirty minute period. The third week increase this to two minutes. Build up over time until you are walking five days a week for an hour each time. Weight loss is possible if you do this. Even if you don't lose weight, you shouldn't gain any either. Reducing the amount of calories you consume will allow you to drop the pounds though.
