Things To Consider When Buying A Pressure Washer

From cleaning sidewalks to the side of your home

, pressure washers are an extremely valuable asset to presenting the most pristine side of your property. Of course, not all pressure washers are created equal, so there are a few different options you must take into consideration before purchasing the equipment. These features often are directly related to how high you need to use the pressurized water and what the city regulations are.

Check with your city to see what rules and regulations they have on using pressure washers. In areas of the country where drought is common during summer months, you may not have approval to use the equipment as it does use a good deal of water. Failure to abide by the rules may result in fines issued by the local government.

Read the pressurized amount listing on the product packaging. The higher the pressure the further the water spray is able to reach. This allows you to clean taller buildings from farther away, which is helpful when cleaning a multiple story house. Typically, higher power pressure washers run a little more, but if the cheaper washers are unable to perform the desired task, it is well worth the extra cash.

Determine how the pressure washer is powered. Although the water is taken directly from an exterior faucet, the pressure comes from building up the water and air inside a portable water tank. This is done via either gas or electricity. Electricity models must be plugged into a local outlet, which may be problematic if you don't have any external outlets, or if the extension cord is rather short. It also requires you to disconnect all your cables when attempting to wash different sides of the building, which adds to the time required to clean. Gas pressure washers, on the other hand, allow you to move more freely in order to clean the desired object, but there are some downsides to this option as well. For starters, you need to constantly fill up the gas tank in order to run the washer. Once the gas is out, the equipment isn't going to run. It also produces smog and exhaust, which are not present in the electrical version of the washer. Lastly it makes a great deal more noise. Due to the electric motor, it is often excessively loud, and if your city has a noise ordinance, people may complain (although this is highly unlikely). It does prevent you from using the pressure washing early in the morning and late at night though, so you don't disturb your nearby neighbors.
