The Unfortunate Situation Involving Heartburn In Children

In most cases, children experience heartburn because of aweak valve between the esophagus and stomach, causing gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD). If that muscle does not close well, the food can back up from stomach to esophagus causing heartburn. The situation is different with babies. Their digestive system hasn't developed completely which the reason what they spit up. Only after their stomachs have fully functional does their heartburn go away.
With bigger kids, it's what they eat which will be a factor as to whether or not they experience heartburn. Eating chocolate, drinking soda, or pigging out on fatty or spicy meats will bring about heartburn just like it will in adults. Chocolate is a child's staple. Now imagine telling them that it might be the reason for their heartburn. No caring parent would want to see the expression on their child's face when they're told they may have to give it up.
When is comes to heartburn in children, try these steps to prevent it:
1) Have them eat smaller meal during the day instead of large meals at certain times.
2) Don't have them wear restrictive clothes that press on the chest and stomach.
3) Don't feed them and put them to bed an hour later. Wait at least 2 to 3 before they lay down for the night.
4) And don't give your child anything that you know will cause a problem for them.
Children who are obese are more prone to chronic heartburn flare-ups, losing a few pounds may correct that. Heartburn in children might also be the result of second-hand smoke. If you were looking for that big reason to quit, this is it.
