The Emerald Isle is one of the most beautiful locations on earth and home to some

of the most breathtaking historical sites and ruins to be found around Europe. It seems that regardless of which direction you choose to travel in upon arrival, you're destined for a magical journey of constantly shifting landscapes and mystical intrigue.

Ireland may be a modern country but it has managed to industrialize without losing touch with or damaging its many cultural heritage sites. Up until recently the agricultural industry was still the largest sector in the country, which shows a clear connection between the land and her people. There are many ways to travel Ireland during a vacation getaway and many companies even allow one to make a selection of heritage sites they would like to visit, and then arrange a tailored tour to meet those needs.

To know which locations you really wish to visit, it's important to know a thing or two about them:

Blarney Castle - This amazing medieval fortress based near Cork was built in the 12th century AD and decimated in 1446 AD. Fortunately the King of Munster, Cormac MacCarthy, had it re-built and it is now only a partial ruin with a great deal of accessible areas open to the public.

Cliffs of Moher - These majestic cliffs, located in Liscannor, rise to an amazing 702 feet above the Atlantic Ocean and offer some of the most incredible views in the world, including the Aran Islands.

Hill of Tara - Situated near the River Boyne in County Meath, the Hill of Tara is a truly unique site. Complete with several ancient monuments and traditionally believed to be the seat of the medieval High Kings of Ireland, this is a pit stop that visitors won't want to miss.

Trim Castle - On the banks of the Boyne, Trim Castle covers an amazing 30,000 m of territory and stands as the largest Norman castle in Europe. Although the massive undertaking was begun in 1174 by Hugh de Lacy, the entire structure was completed in three separate stages in 1206. Although the outer walls suffered fire damage the castle is still a magnificent sight to behold.

Ring of Kerry - One of the most popular scenic drives, the Ring of Kerry covers a 100 mile stretch beginning in Killarney and curving around the Iveragh Peninsula. The Kerry Way is the official foot path and was designed to give sightseers one of the most memorable journeys of their lives.

Although these few locations don't even begin to scratch the surface of the full list of wonders available in Ireland it should give you a place to start. Begin perusing a few travel guides today and allow your imagination to take flight as you plan your trip through the many wonders of the Emerald Isle.
