Altace is one of the most commonly approved drugs that is used to treat high blood pressure levels and congestive heart failure that usually occurs after a heart attack. This drug is manufactured by King Pharmaceuticals. But ever since it's patent expiry, this medication is also available in generic forms. This medication is also prescribed to lower the chances of a heart attack, stroke and death that occur as a result of cardiovascular causes.
This medication belongs to the class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. It functions by lowering the manufacture of angiotensin II and in turn helps to loosen the muscles of the arteries. Altace has also been found to be quite effective in dilating the arteries which results in more blood being pumped from the heart.
Altace should not be used without consulting your doctor and should be avoided if expecting a baby or while breast feeding. This drug is usually started with a dose of 1.25 mg and increased up to 20 mg according to the severity of your condition. Take care to see that you have this pill along with a glass of water even though it is not necessary that you have this medicine along with food. This medication should be preserved at room temperature.
The adverse effects of using Altace include inflammation of mouth, throat and tongue, chest pain, tiredness, weakness of muscles, coughing, sleeping problems and paling of skin pallor or bleeding.
