Take A Tour Of Saigon (ho Chi Minh City)

Take A Tour Of Saigon (ho Chi Minh City)

Ho Chi Minh City, also called Saigon, is the largest city in Vietnam

, having a population of about seven million people. It is the center of the country's economy, although Hanoi is the government's headquarters. This means that money plays an important role in the lives of the city's residents. Do not be surprised to hear your taxi driver reciting the current joint venture regulations. Different business people such as shirt makers use email to communicate with their foreign customers. If you are used to a relaxed way of life then you will be surprised here, where people seem to be constantly hurrying because of the great value put on time.

If you would like to take in the most of the city, it is advisable that you travel on foot. Fortunately, most of the tourist attractions are located in District 1, where maneuvering is fairly easy since it is quite compact.

The taxis use meter systems and are relatively cheap. Another popular mode of transport is Xe om, which refers to motorbike taxis. They are cheaper than cars. Although cyclos are a bit uncomfortable and slow, they give you a good way of touring the city as you will be the only passenger and will have spectacular views. However, they are becoming less common, particularly in the center of the city where they are being phased out.

When looking for a place to dine, there are many different types of restaurants to choose from. There are restaurants owned by foreign business people, but they tend to be expensive. In addition, the atmosphere in the restaurants is rather pretentious. Many Vietnamese restaurants offer westernized services in a more lovely atmosphere.

However, both types of restaurants will not really give you a real traditional Vietnamese meal. Luckily, there are many other places where you can fulfill your culinary desires. There are open air kitchens that provide food eaten outdoors at relatively low prices in Dinh Cong Trang Street. You do not necessarily have to use a menu, as you may simply point at what another customer is eating if you would like to have the same type of dish. There are just a few seafood dishes that are costly, with many of them being quite cheap.

There are many interesting places that you can visit in Saigon. Apart from this, the city offers some of the best shopping opportunities you will find anywhere. You need to sharpen your bargaining skills in order to get the most out of your money. The only places where you can't bargain as much are the main tourist shops. As a general rule, you can buy whatever does not have a price tag at about two thirds of the price you are initially told. If you know how to spot special items, you are bound to have a great shopping experience here.
