Social Anxiety Treatment Proven Plans That Will Help You Overcome This Disorder

Social anxiety is a disorder that affects hundreds of thousands of people worldwide

. Do you suffer from such a disorder? Are you the person who is frightened to even be out in public? Do you dread meeting new people, even talking to a person that you do not know? Do you simply wish to be by yourself, alone in your own home? My friend, your life does not have to be this way. Social anxiety treatment plans can help you overcome this problem; allowing you to enjoy your life.

Anxiety attacks are the result of high levels of stress and pressure which occur within your body. As your brain and central nervous system become over-stimulated chemically over time, it often leads to such attacks if you do not receive any form of treatment. Attacks as a result of social anxiety are just the same. You experience high levels of stress and anguish being in a group of unfamiliar people. The worst situations occur when an individual simply steps outside his/her home and they feel this sickening pain in his/her chest or stomach. The person in this case has ventured outside the house, which has become his/her own comfort zone. Again, this is very unnatural, but treatable. If this is you, understand that you do not have to live the rest of your life under such fears. Be pro-active and realize that help is available.

A real or imagined event that exists within the individuals mind are the trigger(s) for the anxiety, (or social anxiety) attacks that a person suffers in his/her life. The event could be that the person witnessed a horrific crime, had an extremely unpleasant situation occur in a public setting personally, or even viewed something on television/movie theater that was terribly and psychologically frightening to him/her. As the individual begins to dwell and become consumed by the event 24/7, often a change in his/her personality takes place within his being. The person may fantasize negatively that the event that he/she witnessed or viewed could eventually harm him/her in the future.

In order to prevent this event from occurring (or even in repeating itself again) in his/her life, the person will take steps to protect him/herself. In order to achieve this misguided goal, the person may choose to simply withdraw from society. The extreme example is when the individual simply chooses not to venture outside his/her own home, living as a recluse trapped inside his/her house. The thought of going to the theater to watch a musical play, or (in the extreme) going to the store to buy groceries causes a high level of stress and anxiety within the persons being. So, what can be done to allow the person to lead a normal life?

The first step that a person suffering from social anxiety must do is to make arrangements to speak to a qualified medical expert in the field of psychiatry. Hopefully, as you begin consultations with this professional, you will place your full trust in him/her. You should initially understand that your doctor wants to work with you and help you overcome your disorder. Trust that he/she has your best interests at heart. Understand that any type of prescription medication that your doctor provides to you will only serve as a short-term remedy. The medication would serve only to treat your symptoms of anxiety: the ache in your chest and stomach, the sweaty palms, and general feelings of restlessness that your body may be experiencing. The medication will not help you in solving the why; those specific reasons why you simply cannot interact with people in society.

Treatment plans to help you overcome social anxiety would involve your doctor suggesting behavior modification, natural remedies which you should begin incorporating into your life. Slow breathing exercises have been known to be a proven method for lowering the amount of stress and anxiety in your body. You should get involved with yoga and meditation as well. Getting yourself to be able to trust people again, is a slow process. As I stated, this can begin by first trusting your doctor in understanding the simple fact that he/she will not harm you. If you do have a few close friends, continue this process by speaking to them over the phone or even inviting them over to your home. You have to be able to walk, before you can run. Start by taking baby steps. Begin interacting with a few close people initially. Understand that these people have your best interests at heart also, and that they have no intention in hurting you. Above all, please do not give up on yourself.
