Replace Your Teeth Effectively With Dental Implants

For dental patients today, losing a tooth does not have to be the catastrophic event that it once was

. Thanks to increases in technology and dentistry, there are a few different options available to fully replace your missing teeth. The most permanent and effective method for doing so is through the use of dental implants. In this process, your dentist will be able to fully replace your tooth by anchoring it to your jawbone. After the process is over, your replacement tooth will look and feel like a normal tooth and can potentially last in your mouth for decades.

How Does The Process Work?

If you think you may need dental implants, the first thing you should do is to consult with your dentist. He or she will be able to tell you if you have enough gum tissue and jawbone to make you a good candidate for implants. If your dentist confirms that you are a qualified candidate then he or she will bring you into the office for your first procedure. The first procedure consists of your dentist inserting the titanium implant into the bone socket of the missing tooth and securely fastening it to your jawbone. As your jawbone and gum tissue heal, the implant will become anchored to your jawbone and will function like a normal tooth root. After the healing process is over (usually 6 to 12 weeks), your dentist will attach a small connector post to the implant. To create the replacement tooth, your dentist will take detailed impressions of your current teeth and design a tooth that will fit in correctly with your bite. After matching the color of your teeth to the new tooth, your dentist will attach the replacement and your implant procedure will be completed.

Why Should I Use Dental Implants?

When compared to dentures or bridges, dental implants offer a large number of benefits. The most important one is the permanence and durability of implants. With good oral care, many implants can last a lifetime. Since implants work in the same way as tooth roots, your new tooth will be securely anchored to your jaw. Dental bridges, another common tooth replacement, attach replacement to your normal teeth and are not as securely fastened to the jaw.

After your implant procedure is completed, you will not even know that your replacement tooth is any different from your normal teeth. In fact, your mouth and bite will feel totally normal. Instead of having to deal with taking out and cleaning dentures, you will be able to take care of your dental implants simply by brushing, flossing and seeing your dentist for regular cleanings.
