Preparing For Wisdom Teeth Removal

The prospect of getting your wisdom teeth removed can be very daunting and worrisome

. Going to the dentist can be bad enough without knowing that you have to have several teeth removed.

There are many things you can do to prepare for the removal of your wisdom teeth. Before your surgery you should make sure that you are eating properly and well.

If you are not already eating healthily, you should begin eating healthily two weeks before you have your appointment to get your teeth removed. This is partly due to the fact that you will not be able to eat as well as you would like during your recovery period.

It is also partly due to the fact that your body is going to need the reserves nutrients to be able to heal the injured area effectively and efficiently. In addition, you will want to make sure that you have a stock of soft food that you can eat on hand for after your surgery.

You will not feel like eating hard, crunchy things after your surgery because it will be painful. It is also not a good idea as the sharp corners may negatively affect the healing area.

Right after your surgery you will also be weak and you will not want to work to get energy. You will want to be able to swallow without chewing.

Many people find that instant mashed potatoes, porridge, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, pudding, apple sauce, ice cream, and fruit juice become their favorite foods for two weeks. Some people even find they develop a taste for baby food.

In addition, you will want to plan to take it easy for several days if not a couple of weeks. Gather several things you can do while taking it easy together.

You will quickly get bored of watching the television or reading and you will not want to be tempted to go out and play basketball. Another decision you will have to make it whether to get all four removed at once or only get half removed in two sessions.

Most people choose to get all four done at once as the misery is not lessened in two sessions and then you will not have to go back twice. However, if you only get half removed you may be able to chew on the opposite side of your mouth in a couple of days.

In addition, you will need to take a day or two off from work. Keep these days free of obligations so you can relax and repair your mouth.

Do not fill them with exciting things to do because you have the day off. There are also several things you can do on the day of surgery to ease your pain.

To begin with, you will want to stuff yourself before you go. Stock up on energy before you go as you will find it difficult to eat after the surgery.

Even if you are nervous and find it difficult to eat, think about how hungry you will be later. Even though you want to be as full as possible, you do not want eat too much in case you start feeling nauseous during the procedure.

If the dentist had you get a prescription antibiotic for the surgery, take one before you go so that it will be working as soon as the teeth come out. It will help prevent infection during the surgery as well.

Of course, you will want to dress comfortably. You do not want to have to navigate high heels or clothing you have to sit perfectly in while you are numb or under anesthesia.

You are going to feel miserable when you wake up. Make sure you are as comfortable as possible.

In addition, you will need to arrange to have someone drive you to the office and take your home. You will not be allowed to drive for several hours after they put you to sleep.

After the surgery, you will want to be careful not to drink or eat anything that is hot. Otherwise you may burn yourself severely and you would not be able to feel it until the numbness wore off.

In addition do not eat milk products or soups as they tend to encourage the buildup of plaque. You will also need to be careful to take care of the bleeding that will happen in the following hours by apply gauze and changing it when appropriate and necessary.
