Pearl Jewelry - A Family Heirloom & A Prized Possession

Diamonds may be woman's best friend, but pearls are close to her heart and last

for generations; otherwise why would pearl jewelry become a family heirloom, passed from mother to daughter and from generation to generation. They are timeless. Fashion trends may change but pearls remain a prized possession of every woman.

Jewelry made from pearls has come of age in terms of workmanship and designs. Today, they are not only made from pearls but are interspersed with other precious and non-precious stones to entice women who want the best of both worlds.

Even a simple string of pearls worn around the neck gives its wearer an aura of regality. At heart, every woman loves admiration and appreciation.

There are many necklace designs available today. Typically, these are named according to their lengths. The shortest among them is called a collar, which is 15 inches in length. The next in the list is a choker. They fit snugly around the neck at around 16 inches in length. These are available in single or multi strands. Princess, matinee and opera are longer stilland vary in length. A matinee necklace can reach the rib-cage of the wearer. Finally the longest, called the rope, can fall the furthest.

A rope necklace can exceed forty five inches and is often fifty one inches or more. These equate to 3 normal necklace strands put together.

Necklaces made from pearls come in many colors, shapes and configurations. Because fresh water pearls have a diverse range of shapes, craftsmen can create various stunning designs. These designs are set in ordinary metals such as silver or in precious metals such as white or yellow gold.

Of all the pearl adornments, Pearl rings are some of the more popular jewelry designs. It symbolizes the fondest emotions which she has always dreamed of. A pearl finger band gives her a feeling of happiness and a sense of fulfillment.

Freshwater rings tend to be affordable, while South Sea rings, because of their rarity, can cost a bit more. The former can be worn for informal parties and the latter for special occasions like weddings and anniversaries. On the other hand a ring crafted from Tahitian pearls can fetch a woman many admirers. These are costly and look elegant when worn with long gowns and other dresses.

Typically, pearl earrings come in four designs: stud, dangle, cluster and hoop/ring. Of the four varieties, the stud design remains the most popular for pearls. The ring design has its own attraction. A single south sea pearl or large Tahitian pearl set in white gold offers a charming way to enhance facial beauty.

In today's contemporary times, pearls are generally interspersed with diamonds to craft various pearl ornaments. Pearl earrings are no different. They have always remained popular with women of all ages. Stud designs are also available in combination with other smaller pearls or intricately designed with rubies or diamonds.
