Mark your calendars for March 12, 2011, as one of the most significant festivals in the Pacific region is going to take place in Western Springs Stadium, Auckland city for the 19th time. The Pasifika Festival is held annually attracting over 225,000 visitors. Various performers from Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Cook Islands, Tahiti, Niue, Tuvalu, Tokelau, the Tangata Whenua (New Zealand Maori) and Kiribati usually arrive.

This festival celebrating the unique identities, cultures, art and lifestyles of New Zealand and the Pacific nations, was recently expanded to a multi-day event, making it the largest one of its kind. This festival basically presents all things Polynesian from traditional cuisine and handicrafts to contemporary music and art.

Since its origin in 1993, the Pasifika Festival has progressed into a being a highlight for visitors and it is the finale of the new expanded programme concluding a week of debates, concerts, workshops and exhibitions. Over 300 stalls will be set up and the diverse range of activities and entertainment will be featured on four stages. This showcase of Pacific culture is spread out from March 7-12.
