Online Article Authors - Check Your Bio Once, Check it Twice - Make it Sweet

, Tight, and Nice

Not long ago, a very thoughtful person had emailed me and let me know that I'd made some rather silly mistakes in my online article author bio. Sure enough they were spot on, and I cannot for the life of me figured out how on Earth I'd missed those errors.

The individual was more than gracious about it all, complimented me on my articles, and made some helpful suggestions - basically to fix; (1) a spelling error, (2) a capitalization error, (3) a silly mistake in sentence structure. This entire event made me realize the need to proof-read more carefully, but more importantly have a friend or a copywriter look over your bio to make sure it is short, sweet, tight, and nice - as in polite and not pushing the boundaries of political correctness too much.

Anyway, I was so blown away by getting such a professional and helpful email that I told the individual - Hey, I want to thank you for taking the time, that's very nice - WOW! It often seems as if no one seems to care anymore. I have followed your advice and made those changes - good catch! Obviously, I am not much of an editor or copywriter - yes, I admit it. The reality is I am not such a great writer, don't get me wrong, I am good at many things, but writing sure isn't one of them, it's been a struggle the entire journey.

You see, I actually got a D+ in journalism in junior high school and thus, didn't do much writing until well into my late 30's. Those were rather silly mistakes, I guess my eyes just read over such things - which is easy to do when I am the one who wrote it - it's much easier to see such mistakes when it is something someone else wrote - it's as if such errors jump off the page at you. No I am not attempting to make excuses of course - those were dumb mistakes, so I appreciated the email.

Still, this is a lesson to all online article authors regardless of your writing ability - check your bio for mistakes, and proof read it early and often. Indeed, I sure hope my lesson will assist you, without having to learn the hard way, as I did. Please think on this.
