Michigan Trucks Power Forward in MI Auto Times May the Best Truck Win Round Two
DETROIT, M.I. -- Michigan trucks are being challenged by a competitor with corporate roots in California. The Toyota Tundra regular cab was put up against the Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. Both trucks were selected because they had similar engine size, configuration, and were close in price. The specifications and features listed by each manufacturer were held in comparison and one winner was chosen.
Two Michigan trucks went head-to-head in the first round which saw the GMC Sierra SLE overtake the Ford F150, and those who own Michigan trucks can celebrate again. Even though the second round of competition was extremely difficult, one winner was awarded in the end.
MI Auto Times rates Michigan trucks and all trucks by four categories with the ratings ceiling closing at four stars as best. The four categories are value, power, comfort and factory warranty. The power category in this round of competition was a draw. Three and a half stars were awarded to both the Dodge Ram and the Toyota Tundra. Narrowing out the Toyota Tundra, the Dodge Ram had a slightly larger engine size, 4-7 liters compared with 4.6 liters, which gives it larger displacement capacity and more power.
The value champion proved to be the Toyota Tundra even though it did not qualify for any national incentives it was a better buy because of its higher combined mpg1 rating of 17 against the 15 combined mpg rating of the Dodge Ram.
But when it came to comfort Michigan trucks win out again. The Dodge Ram has more comfort features such as power mirrors, power windows, cruise control and heated mirrors. The Dodge Ram also gives customers one year of SIRIUS satellite radio.
And in the warranty category, customers who buy the Dodge Ram will get the best backing. The Toyota Tundra only offers a basic 3-year/36,000 mile limited warranty where the Dodge Ram offers that plus a new 5-year/100,000 mile power train limited warranty. Both trucks offer rust coverage but the Toyota Tundra will expire at 60 months whereas the Dodge Ram keeps coverage for 5 years and 100,000 miles.
