There are three cars that rank at the top of the luxury car market the Audi A6, Mercedes E class and the BMW 5 series. But it is worth a test drive and closer inspection. It sells competitively for forty five to sixty thousand dollars and gets a respectable 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.
The Mercedes E class is the number one best seller in the luxury class sedan. Mercedes has been building luxury cars for over sixty years and now stands at the top of the mountain with the E class. The E class gives you everything you should expect in a luxury sedan safety, reliability, luxurious interior and great performance. The one thing that E class gets shaky reviews for is the reliability, which can be a little disconcerting considering the high price to repair.
The BMW 5 series is the German answer to the consumer that does not just want a luxury sedan but a little bit of a sports car too. No other luxury sedan in its class is more fun to drive around the winding road or through down town. There are a few cars in its class that have more horsepower or a bigger engine but none have the refinement of the 5 series.

If you decide on a used model make sure to bring along a mechanic to inspect it before you buy.
